His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, consented to send messages to His Excellency The Honourable Sir General Peter Cosgrove on the occasion of his recent appointment as Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, and also to Her Excellency The Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce, the outgoing Governor-General of The Commonwealth of Australia.

In his message to His Excellency The Honourable Sir General Peter Cosgrove, His Majesty was pleased to send his warmest congratulations to His Excellency on his recent appointment as the new Governor-General of The Commonwealth of Australia. His Majesty wished His Excellency much success in his new post, and looks forward to the pleasure of working closely with him to further promote the warm friendship and close cooperation shared between Brunei Darussalam and Australia.

Meanwhile, in his message to The Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce, the outgoing Governor-General of Australia, His Majesty stated that it had been a pleasure working with Her Excellency during her term in office as Governor-General. His Majesty was also greatly honoured to have Her Excellency in Brunei Darussalam in 2012, and was pleased to be able to reciprocate that with His Majesty's own state visit to Australia last year, for which His Majesty once again thanked Her Excellency for the very warm welcome and kind hospitality extended throughout his stay in Canberra. His Majesty also very much appreciated Her Excellency's personal contribution to Brunei Darussalam and Australia's bilateral relations, and was confident that the long-standing friendship between the two countries would continue to grow and further strengthen in the years to come.

In ending the messages, His Majesty extended his kindest regards and best wishes to His Excellency The Honourable Sir General Peter Cosgrove and The Honourable Dame Quentin Bryce.
