26.11.17 His Royal Highness Watches the Golden Jubilee Regatta

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, yesterday morning watched the Regatta held in the capital in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.


Upon arrival at the Royal Wharf, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Home Affairs; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism; and Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, as Co-Chairmen of the Sectoral Committee for the Celebration and District/Mukim Events


Also in attendance were His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna binti Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifudien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.


Boarding a special boat, His Royal Highness proceeded to the waters of Kampung Tamoi Ujung - located one kilometre from the Royal Wharf- to officially launch the Inter-Ministry 25-paddlers Traditional Boat Race.


Following the launch, contestants began to showcase their skills and competitiveness. 11 teams took part in the event, namely the Prime Minister's Office; Ministry of Defence; Ministry of Finance; Ministry of Home Affairs; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Religious Affairs; Ministry of Development; Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism; Ministry of Communications; Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports; and Ministry of Health.


First place went to the Ministry of Defence, followed by the Prime Minister's Office, and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Meanwhile, the 30-paddlers Open Traditional Boat Race involved 12 teams from Brunei Darussalam, and 2 teams from Malaysia. The Laksamana Sinapuan, Sarawak team was crowned as the champion, while Mukim Saba team and Lela Cheteria team took second and third place respectively.


In the 20-paddlers Open Youth Fibre Glass Boat Race, 8 teams from Brunei Darussalam and 2 teams from Malaysia took part in the event which was witnessed by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. The Laksamana Sinapuan, Sarawak team won the event, followed by the 'GATA Brunei Gabungan Tamoi' team and Lela Cheteria team.


His Royal Highness then presented prizes to the winners of the morning session's boat race events. The 20-paddlers Inter-District Fibre Glass Boat Race was won by the Brunei Muara District team, and they received a trophy and cash prize worth 800 dollars. Meanwhile, SPSS team placed first in the 20-paddlers Inter-Private Companies Fibre Glass Boat Race, and received a 900-dollars cash prize and a trophy.


Laksamana Sinapuan, Sarawak team that won the 25-paddlers Open Traditional Boat Race received a trophy and cash prize worth 900 dollars. Meanwhile, the Ikan Paus team of MSABDB who took first place in the 15-paddlers Youth Under 30 Fibre Glass Boat Race brought home a trophy and a 500-dollars cash prize.


The Ministry of Defence who won the Inter-Ministry 25-paddlers Traditional Boat Race also received a trophy and cash prize worth 900 dollars. Laksamana Sinapuan, Sarawak team who also won the 30-paddlers Open Traditional Boat Race, again received a trophy and one-thousand-dollars cash prize. The team also took home another trophy and a 500-dollars cash prize for winning the 20-paddlers Open Youth Fibre Glass race.


Apart from upholding the growth of the nation's tourism industry, the Regatta further enlivened the atmosphere in the capital, and making it as the centre of tourist attraction. Organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Regatta has successfully strengthened the people's relationship through teamwork and solidarity, and continue to remain as one of the country's popular sports until yesterday.
