Pengiran Sazali was commissioned as a military officer at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst in 1991. He spent the first 18 years of his career in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2008.

He started the next chapter of his career in 2010, at the Centre for Science, Technology and Research (CSTRAD), Ministry of Defence. Pengiran Sazali became part of the team that set up CSTRAD, and he also contributed to the development of the ministry’s capability planning doctrine.

Pengiran Sazali was the Corporate Support Manager at CSTRAD before assuming his current appointment as Permanent Secretary (Security, Enforcement and Law) at the Prime Minister’s Office on 1 February 2018.

He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Westminster in 1990. 

Pengiran Sazali is married to Pengiran Datin Paduka Hajah Rostaina binti Pengiran Haji Duraman and is blessed with three children.
