His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu‘izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, today continued his official programme under the 12th Singapore-Brunei Young Leaders’ Programme (YLP) in Singapore.

His Royal Highness began the day’s programme by visiting the SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Biodiversity Medicine (BD-MED) to observe advancements in translational medical research.

His Royal Highness was welcomed upon arrival at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) by His Excellency Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Health of the Republic of Singapore.

During the visit, His Royal Highness attended a briefing and presentation on the institute’s ongoing scientific collaboration with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD). Housed at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), the SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Biodiversity Medicine (BD-MED) is a joint research facility that studies regional plant life to discover new medical treatments. Through a joint genomics laboratory with UBD, the institute successfully mapped the genome of Brunei Darussalam’s national flower, the Simpur, to unlock its potential anti-cancer and healing properties.

Following the presentation, His Royal Highness toured the research laboratories and observed live scientific demonstrations showcasing modern medical technology. At the lab, His Royal Highness also interacted with a fourth-year Pharmacy student from UBD who is undergoing her Discovery Year at BD-MED.
