His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has safely undergone surgery of the Right Total Knee Replacement at Jerudong Park Medical Centre, 18th January 2026.
His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam as well as members of the Royal Family were greeted upon arrival at Jerudong Park Medical Centre by Ministers and Deputy Ministers.
By consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, a Special Announcement by the Prime Minister’s Office was broadcast from Jerudong Park Medical Centre.
The Special Announcement was delivered by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd. Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Defence; Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Awang Haji Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Awang Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs; and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health.
The Special Announcement began with the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and the Second Minister of Defence.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send a message of congratulations to His Excellency Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, as well as to the people of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on the occasion of its 78th Independence Day.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam attended a Get-Together Ceremony with citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam who are in the United Kingdom and Ireland, held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.
Upon arrival, His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri were welcomed by His Excellency Retired First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to the United Kingdom and Ireland and spouse, Pengiran Datin Noralam binti Pengiran Haji Kahar; together with Dayangku Nabilah binti Pengiran Behrin, President of the Brunei Students’ Union; and, Dayang Zuhrah Fatin Aina binti Mohammad Shukri, Vice-President of the Union.
In a welcoming remark, the President of BSU shared on the theme of the ceremony, “Raja Berwawasan, Belia Pemacu Cita Negara”, which reflected His Majesty’s far-sighted leadership. His Majesty received a pesambah comprising a badminton racket with a specially designed cover and a Ristaan book. Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri also received a pesambah in a floral tribute stained-glass featuring five national flowers. The ceremony was further enlivened by a tausyeh performance titled ‘Bissalaamil Mubin’.
His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri mingled with approximately 1,130 citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send congratulatory messages to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, and His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, the Government as well as the people of the State of Qatar, on the occasion of the National Day of the State of Qatar.

His Majesty Presents and Receives Letters of Credence
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, presented Letters of Credence to Brunei Darussalam’s newly-appointed envoy and received Letters of Credence from newly-appointed Foreign Envoys to Brunei Darussalam. The ceremonies took place this afternoon at Istana Nurul Iman.
His Majesty first presented Letters of Credence to His Excellency Adnan bin Haji Mohd Ja’afar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the United States of America; His Excellency Wan Hadfi Lutfan bin Haji Abdul Latif, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to Japan; His Excellency Haji Sulaini bin Haji Said, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to Kuwait; His Excellency Retired Captain Haji Mohamad Sarif Pudin bin Matseruddin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar; Her Excellency Ang Lay Ling, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Canada; and Her Excellency Siti Arnyfariza binti Haji Mohd Jaini, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of India.
His Majesty then received Letters of Credence from His Excellency U Sein Oo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar;
His Excellency Heuankeo Sangsomsak, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic;
His Excellency Ramu Abbagani, High Commissioner of the Republic of India;
His Excellency Tamer Mansy; High Commissioner of Canada;
And, His Excellency Weert Börner, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany.
After the ceremonies, His Majesty received in audience Brunei Darussalam’s newly-appointed envoys, as well as newly-appointed Foreign Envoys to Brunei Darussalam. Present at the ceremonies were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs; Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Mohammed Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohammed Yunos, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Yang Mulia Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamiddon bin Haji Ibrahim, Private and Confidential Secretary to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam; Yang Mulia Awang Haji Muhammad Fakhri bin Haji Mohd Taib, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Raffizanna bin Pengiran Haji Razali, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office as Acting Grand Chamberlain.
