His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, in a titah welcomes the adoption of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 as a clear long-term compass towards a resilient, innovative, dynamic, and people-centred ASEAN. To realise this vision, practical cooperation that strengthens resilience in areas of greatest importance is needed.

In a titah while attending the Plenary Session of the 48th ASEAN Summit at the Mactan Expo, Cebu City, Republic of the Philippines, His Majesty expresses support for ongoing efforts to implement the ASEAN Petroleum Security Agreement, expand the ASEAN Power Grid, and advance the Trans-ASEAN Gas Pipeline, and encouraged the exploration of energy security arrangements with Dialogue Partners, drawing on lessons from successful regional mechanisms.

Hence, His Majesty in a titah says ASEAN must address energy-food linkages to ensure food security, as rising fuel prices impact production, transport, fertilisers, and food costs across the region. In addition, the strengthening of emergency reserves such as ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve APTERR, improving information-sharing, boosting productivity, and enhancing technology cooperation can build stronger safety nets for the region’s people.

His Majesty first attended the Opening Ceremony of the 48th ASEAN Summit. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen. 

The arrival of His Majesty was welcomed by His Excellency Ferdinand R Marcos Jr, President of the Republic of Philippines and spouse, First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos.

The Opening Ceremony of the 48th ASEAN Summit – which was also attended by other Leaders of ASEAN – commenced with the ASEAN anthem, “The ASEAN Way”.

This was followed by Welcoming Remarks from His Excellency the President of the Philippines as Chairman of ASEAN this year, in which His Excellency welcomed all Leaders and delegates attending the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu City.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended a Dinner hosted by His Excellency Ferdinand R Marcos Jr, President of the Republic of the Philippines and spouse, First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, which was held at Cowrie Cove, Shangri-La Mactan Resort, Cebu. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was welcomed by His Excellency the President of the Philippines and spouse. Also present were other ASEAN Leaders who are in Cebu to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit.

The culmination of the National Level Musabaqah Al-Quran Reading for Adults 1447Hijarah 2026 was the prize presentation to winners and participants. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam presented the prizes. Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris bin Pengiran Maharaja Lela Pengiran Muda Abdul Kahar, Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara; as Co-Advisor of the Musabaqah Executive Committee.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Awang Haji Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Awang Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs as Chairman of the Musabaqah Executive Committee;

Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd. Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy;

Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Doctor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Minister of Education;

Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications;

And members of the Musabaqah Executive Committee.

Awangku Adi Nazri bin Pengiran Haji Jofri was crowned as the Qari champion, while Dayangku Siti Ummi Syazana binti Pengiran Haji Marjuki emerged as the Qariah champion.

The Audience Ceremony was held at Istana Nurul Iman, 29th April afternoon.

His Excellency is in Brunei Darussalam to attend the 25th ASEAN-European Union Ministerial Meeting, which was held in Bandar Seri Begawan from 27th to 28th April, as well as to make an Official Visit from 29th to 30th April to discuss bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and Cambodia.

Accompanying His Excellency were His Excellency Ouk Sorphorn, Secretary of State and Chief of the Cabinet of His Excellency Prak Sokhonn; His Excellency Hun Saroeun, Under Secretary of State; His Excellency Chey Ratha; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cambodia to Brunei Darussalam; and Dr. Lay Chanrasmey, Deputy Director General, General Department of Asia-Pacific.

His Majesty received in audience His Excellency Prak Sokhonn. Also present were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohammad Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dato Seri Paduka Awang Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office.

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam received in audience Her Excellency Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, who is in the country for a two-day visit. The Audience Ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman, 27th April afternoon.

This marks Her Excellency’s inaugural visit to Brunei Darussalam on the occasion of the 25th ASEAN-European Union (EU) Ministerial Meeting, hosted by Brunei as Country Coordinator for ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations from 2024 – 2027. The meeting is expected to discuss on ways to advance the ASEAN-EU Strategic Partnership across priority areas, as well as exchange views on regional and international matters of mutual importance to both sides. Brunei and the EU share a close working relationship through various multilateral platforms including the ASEAN Regional Forum and the Asia-Europe Meeting, in which both sides have good cooperation in the fields of trade and investment as well as security. Accompanying Her Excellency during the Audience Ceremony were His Excellency Denis Chaibi, Non-Resident EU Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam; Michal Safianik, Member of Cabinet of the High Representative High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission; Erik Kurzweil, Managing Director for Asia and Pacific, European External Action Service and Romain Seignovert, Communication Expert, European External Action Service. Also present were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd.
