
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah emphasises that enhancing linkages is essential for expanding ASEAN's relevance and unlocking new cooperation areas such as digitalisation and energy transition. In this regard, His Majesty underscores the importance of assessing each application on their respective merits and strengths to ensure proposed partnerships benefit the people and region. His Majesty made the titah at the Plenary Session of the 44th ASEAN Summit held at Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic. The ASEAN Summit commenced with the Opening Ceremony of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits held at the National Convention Centre, NCC, Vientiane. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
The arrival of His Majesty was welcomed by His Excellency Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The Opening Ceremony of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits, which was also attended by Leaders of ASEAN and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, commenced with the ASEAN anthem, “The ASEAN Way". This was followed by Welcoming Remarks from His Excellency the Prime Minister of Laos as Chairman of ASEAN this year, in which His Excellency welcomed all Leaders and delegates attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane. Next, His Excellency Thongloun Sisoulith, President of Laos delivered Opening Remarks at the Ceremony.
His Excellency then presented the 2024 ASEAN Prize to the ASEAN Youth Organisation from the Republic of Indonesia. The ASEAN Prize honours individuals or organisations that have contributed significantly towards fostering regional integration and strengthening the ASEAN Community.
