Brunei Darussalam and The People's Republic of China reaffirmed their commitment to explore opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of public security in the near future, especially in areas of mutual interest such as cybercrime and illicit drug smuggling. The matter was outlined during a Courtesy Call by a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China to Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Sufian Bin Haji Sabtu, Deputy Minister for Security and Law at the Prime Minister's Office.
The delegation led by His Excellency Dai Binbin, Vice-Governor of Shanxi Province and Director of the Public Security Department of Shanxi Province was in the country at the invitation of the Prime Minister's Office. The Courtesy Call was a continuation to the bilateral discussions between Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Public Security which was held on 9th of September 2024 at the sidelines of the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum 2024 in Lianyungang, People's Republic of China.
The delegation also paid a Courtesy Call on Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Sulaiman bin Alidin, Acting Commissioner of Police, Royal Brunei Police Force. During the Courtesy Call, senior officers from the RBPF and the Ministry of Public Security had a discussion on issues and crime trends that were of mutual concern to the security and enforcement agencies in both countries.
The delegation also visited Pusat Al-Islah at Kampong Kupang, Tutong to learn more about Brunei Darussalam's approach in handling the issue of drug abuse and addiction. During their visit to Pusat Al-Islah, His Excellency also had a meeting with Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Zalani bin Haji Ismail, Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau to discuss opportunities for collaboration between the Ministry of Public Security and the NCB in addressing crimes such as drug smuggling and the misuse of drugs.
