His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office in a sabda reaffirmed the commitment of His Majesty's Government to enhancing cooperation and making meaningful and significant contributions to pave the way for enhanced unity in the collective resolve to be more resilient and prepared for future shocks. His Royal Highness made the sabda at the Opening Ceremony of the 17th Conference of the ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information, AMRI and Related Meetings. The ceremony took place at The Empire Brunei, 7th May morning.
On arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Defence as Chair of the 17th AMRI.
The recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.
The Chair of the 17th AMRI in his welcoming address among other matters said that the information sector has been instrumental, in improving literacy across ASEAN.
In the sabda, His Royal Highness said the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 which will be adopted during the 46th ASEAN Summit will serve as a roadmap over the next 20 years. For it to succeed, it must be transformed from a policy framework into a shared aspiration.
His Royal Highness in the sabda also expressed hope to see AMRI collaborating with other sectors to proactively address the rapid pace of technological advancements.
His San Lwin, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community representing the ASEAN Secretary-General in his speech among other matters touched on the rapidly changing information and media sector.
Brunei Darussalam's Chairmanship of the 17th AMRI and Related Meetings emphasises the theme “MAJU - Media Advancing Joint Understanding".
The ceremony was attended by Ministers Responsible for Information from ASEAN Member States, the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, the People's Republic of China and Japan.
The AMRI conference is held every two years.
