11th UTB Convocation

397 graduates received their Doctor of Philosophy, Master's Degree and Bachelor's Degrees in various fi​elds at the 11th Universiti Teknologi Brunei, UTB, Convocation, 14th September morning. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Chancellor of UTB conferred the degrees to the graduates. The ceremony took place at the Plenary Hall, International Convention Centre in Berakas. This year's UTB Convocation Ceremony saw the Awarding of the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Technology Innovation to His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office as Pro-Chancellor of UTB. 

The ceremony began with the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang  Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar. 

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Doctor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Minister of Education and Datin Paduka Professor Doctor Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice Chancellor of UTB.  

The reading of Surah Al-Jaasiah was presented by Awang Mohammad Wafiy bin Haji Morsidi, Bachelor of Science graduate with Honours in Computer Networking. The interpretation of the verse was read by Awangku Ahmadi bin Pengiran Idrus, Bachelor of Business graduate with Honours in Finance and Risk Management. 

In her welcoming address, the Vice Chancellor of UTB among other matters emphasised the high quality and competence of UTB in the field of research. 

While reading out the excerpt from the Awarding of the Honorary Degree, the Vice-Chancellor of UTB praised the awarding as recognition of the leadership of His Royal Highness, who is always progressive and innovative. 

His Majesty delivered the titah of consent to confer the Awarding of the Honorary Doctor of Technology Innovation Degree to His Royal Highness. 

His Majesty then delivered the titah of consent to confer the degrees to the graduates. 

Out of 397 graduates, 11 received Doctor of Philosophy degrees, 82 graduates received Master's degrees, and 304 graduates received Bachelor's Degrees. 

For the first time, graduates from the Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering, Master of Architecture, Communications, Civil Engineering (Part-Time) and Doctor of Philosophy programmes in several areas of expertise received their certificates. 

UTB is ranked in the top 20 universities in Southeast Asia and the only university awarded FIVE Star plus in the country. 

Doa Selamat was read by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim. 

High quality research allows UTB to be recognised as a Research University.
