
The theme of the Borneo Islamic International Conference, the 15th KAIB is seen as very relevant and important in context of the lives of Muslims in today's modern era. His Majesty the Sultan and the Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam officiated the conference. The ceremony took place at the Plenary Hall, International Convention Centre, Berakas.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Doctor Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md. Salleh, Minister of Education, and Doctor Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA as the Chairman of the 15th KAIB Steering Committee.
Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons,
- His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; as Pro-Chancellor of UNISSA;
- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik;
- And His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.
The recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
The reading of Al-Qur'an, Surah As-Saba verses 15 to 19 by Awang Abdussalam Jaidee bin Abdul Malik, undergraduate of UNISSA reminds Muslims of the importance of being humble and grateful.
The Rector of UNISSA in his welcoming remarks among others touched on the objective of organising the 15th KAIB to develop a sustainable Islamic community and municipality, involving all levels of society. At the same time, the exchanges of ideas and experience in the 15th KAIB, is hoped to create a synergy of knowledge and ideas between various parties to collaborate in realising the sustainable development goals.
His Majesty officiates the 15th KAIB.
The importance of developing Islamic societies and municipalities according to the requirements of Maqasid Syariah was emphasised in the Presentation of the Premier Paper titled "Membangun Masyarakat dan Perbandaran Islam yang Mampan" by the State Mufti.
The conference is organised by UNISSA in collaboration with 10 universities in Borneo.
